The Registered Nurses\u2019 Union Newfoundland & Labrador (RNUNL) celebrated its 50th Anniversary and 29th Biennial Convention by bringing together over 250 delegates under the theme “Stronger Together.” Over the course of the convention, delegates engaged in critical discussions and passed 19 resolutions aimed at strengthening the nursing profession and public healthcare system in Newfoundland and Labrador.<\/p>\n
Key resolutions focused on enhancing recognition and autonomy for Nurse Practitioners, expanding NP-led clinics, and broadening the union\u2019s travel locum program to rural and remote areas. Additional initiatives addressed better orientation and mentorship for internationally educated nurses, financial support and full-time opportunities for student nurses, and advancing efforts in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis convention highlighted the power of collective action,\u201d said RNUNL President Yvette Coffey. \u201cWe\u2019ve emerged with a stronger sense of purpose, ready to shape a future where RNs and NPs are empowered, and our healthcare system is fortified.\u201d<\/p>\n
Delegates were also inspired by JD Gilmour’s presentation on recognizing and managing compassion fatigue, burnout, and moral distress\u2014issues central to nurses’ well-being in today\u2019s healthcare environment.<\/p>\n
RNUNL\u2019s renewed vision and commitment to advocacy will drive the union\u2019s efforts over the next two years. As Coffey emphasized, \u201cTogether, we will continue to lead, advocate, and drive the changes needed for our profession, our members, and our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
