Understanding your rights as a casual employee is crucial, particularly in how displacement<\/span><span class=\"s3\">\/reassignment<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> is handled according to the collective agreement.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"s2\">What is Displacement?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">Displacement occurs when an employer temporarily changes an employee\u2019s position due to operational needs. &nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s3\">D<\/span><span class=\"s3\">isplacement can be triggered by:<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Increased or decreased workload,<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Unexpected absences requiring urgent personnel coverage,<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Emergencies.<\/span><\/div>\n<h2>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<h2><span class=\"s2\">Steps to Follow When a Casual RN is Displaced<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> or Reassigned<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">The process for displacement<\/span><span class=\"s3\">\/reassignment<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> depends on when the need changes (before or after shift commencement) and whether the casual RN is classified as obligated or non-obligated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">1. If the Need Changes <\/span><span class=\"s6\">Before<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> the Shift Starts<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Non-Obligated Casual:<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> The employer must notify the casual RN and offer another assignment. If the casual RN declines, they have no obligation to work, and the shift is canceled. (Article 33.08 (ii))<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Obligated Casual:<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> The employer must notify the casual RN and assign them to a new work assignment, which they are required to accept. (Article 32.02 (e))<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">2. If the Need Changes <\/span><span class=\"s6\">After<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> the Shift Starts<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Non-Obligated Casual:<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> The casual RN <\/span><span class=\"s3\">is required to accept the new assignment<\/span><span class=\"s3\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Obligated Casual:<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> The employer must notify the casual RN and assign them to a new work assignment, which they are required to accept. (Article 32.02 (e))<\/span><\/div>\n<h2>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<h2><span class=\"s2\">Your Rights as a Casual RN<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">If you are displaced<\/span><span class=\"s3\">\/reassigned<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> as a casual RN, remember:<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s3\">You cannot be forced to accept a new assignment <\/span><span class=\"s3\">prior to commencement of the shift<\/span> <span class=\"s3\">if you are a <\/span><span class=\"s2\">non-obligated<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> casual.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s3\">If you are an <\/span><span class=\"s2\">obligated<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> casual, you must accept reassignment.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">Understanding your rights empowers you to navigate changes in your shift assignments with confidence.
