The Registered Nurses’ Union Newfoundland & Labrador proudly recognized Jane Domenic as a recipient of the Ovation Award, presented at the 2024 Biennial Convention in celebration of her unwavering dedication to nursing, advocacy, and union leadership.

Jane began her nursing career in 1986, working in Florida before returning home to Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1989, she joined the Janeway’s toddler unit and has remained a steadfast advocate for pediatric patients ever since, holding various roles in surgery, recovery, DI, cleft care, and cardiology.

A committed union leader, Jane became a shop steward in 1998 and played a pivotal role during the 1999 strike. She continued her leadership within Branch 2, eventually serving as President until stepping into her current role as Vice President. Known for her strategic thinking, Jane has been instrumental in negotiations, ensuring that part-time and casual nurses are not overlooked in a female-dominated profession.

Jane’s resilience was especially evident in 2019, when she faced a personal battle with Stage 4 breast cancer. Despite undergoing treatment, she remained dedicated to serving members, advocating for their rights, and leading with strength and compassion.

Colleagues describe Jane as a quiet but fierce champion for fairness, someone who challenges the status quo and sees solutions where others see obstacles. Her mentorship has inspired many, and her impact on the nursing profession and union will be felt for years to come.

Reflecting on the honour, Jane shared, “It is an amazing honour to have received the Ovation Award. I am very humbled and thankful for the recognition. This award belongs to so many of my colleagues and makes the work we do supporting RNs meaningful and worthwhile. It’s what keeps us fighting and strong. Thank you for the recognition and the very kind words.”

Congratulations to Jane on this well-deserved honour!
