RNU Staffing Updates
March 14, 2023Over the summer, RNU celebrated the retirement of two staff members after years of dedicated service!
Judy Boone retired on June 30 after 25 years with the union. Judy began her career in 1997 as Clerk Stenographer. She has been an instrumental part of the RNU team, especially in helping our records management processes evolve and grow over the years. “Give it to Judy, she can do anything!” is how the office saying goes. Judy has been a key go-to person over the last two decades. Huge congratulations, Judy!
We also celebrated the retirement of Marina Owens, Manager of Business Services, who retired July 8 after 17 years of service. Marina has played a key role in our union, helping to lead our team and support all areas of operations. Her leadership and expertise has been instrumental to the growth and development of RNU and our ability to meet the needs of our members. Best of luck on the golf course, Marina!
We would also like to introduce our newest team members: Victoria, David, Jennifer, Lori, Ross and Linda.
Victoria Attwood started in February as our Administrative Assistant. She became permanent in May in lead up to the retirement of Judy Boone. Victoria has diplomas from the College of the North Atlantic in Office Administration – Executive and Records and Information Management, and a post diploma in Information Management. Victoria’s education, along with past work experience, made her a great candidate for this position.
David Hammond started with RNU in 2017 as a Labour Relations Officer. He recently moved into the position of Manager of Business Services in July following the retirement of Marina Owens. David has a master’s degree in Employment Relations and is a charted professional in Human Resources. He brings nearly 15 years of human and labour relations experience. We’re excited to have David in this new role.
Jennifer Brown started in May 2021 as a temporary Digital Communications Coordinator, with the position becoming permanent in May 2022. Jennifer holds bachelor’s degrees in business administration and public relations. She assists with internal and external communications, as well as online engagement tools to help RNU adapt and thrive in the digital space.
Lori Upshall started in August 2022 as our temporary Labour Relations Officer. This position fills the vacancy created by David Hammond changing roles. You may recognize Lori as she is a Registered Nurse and was President of Branch 3. Complementary to a successful nursing career, Lori brings in-depth knowledge of professional practice and occupational health and safety. Lori adds an excellent combination of nursing and labour relations experience to the team.
Ross Tansley started September 2022 as our permanent Labour Relations Officer. This position was added to our staff complement given the substantial increase in demand for labour relations services. Ross brings a unique skill mix to the team including a Bachelor of Commerce from Memorial University, as well as a master’s degree in Business Administration from the Royal Military College in Kingston with a focus on human resources and labour relations. In addition to his Labour Relations background, Ross is also experienced with pensions plans, payroll and collective bargaining.
Linda MacPherson started mid-January 2023 as our temporary Labour Relations Officer. Linda brings a diverse nursing background including 35 years’ experience. You may recognize Linda as she was the Patient Care Facilitator for MPS dialysis since 2017 and an active Shop Steward within the branch. Prior to this, Linda occupied various nursing positions from staff nurse to facility manager in both Canada and the USA. Linda is an advocate for professional practice and occupational health and safety, and we’re thrilled to have her join our team.
