Rogues Honour Nurses on Nurse Appreciation Night
February 24, 2025
The Newfoundland Rogues celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Registered Nurses’ Union Newfoundland and Labrador (RNUNL) with a special Nurse Appreciation Night on January 11, 2025, at the Mary Brown’s Centre. The event, held during a highly anticipated matchup, saw the Rogues defeat the Pontiac Pharaohs 132 to 106.
Nurses were recognized for their half-century of dedication to the health and well-being of communities across Newfoundland and Labrador. In a nod to their commitment, Vice-President Kim Parsons represented RNUNL at the game and successfully answered a basketball trivia question about the term “in the paint.” Labour Relations Officers Jennifer Druken and Krista Earle were also on hand, distributing RNUNL-branded thunder sticks and clappers to enthusiastic fans.
The Rogues showcased their offensive strength throughout the game. They shot an impressive 51.0% from the field and dominated from beyond the arc, converting 45.2% of their three-point attempts. In contrast, the Pontiac Pharaohs, now at 3-8, struggled to keep pace, shooting only 40.9% overall and 32.4% from three-point range.
The collaboration between the Rogues and RNUNL highlights the strong community support for nurses and the important role they play in healthcare. The evening’s success further reinforced ongoing partnerships between healthcare providers and community organizations.
