Building Knowledge, Strengthening Our Union: The 2026 Education Calendar

March 11, 2026

Education is central to how RNU strengthens representation, builds leadership capacity, and supports nurses across Newfoundland and Labrador. The 2026 Education Calendar brings together a full year of learning opportunities designed to equip Shop Stewards, Branch Executives, and union leaders with the knowledge and skills required to effectively represent members and advance our collective priorities.

From foundational steward training to province-wide leadership forums, the 2026 calendar reflects RNU’s ongoing commitment to building informed, confident leaders at every level of our union.

Shop Steward Education Across the Province

Shop Steward Education (SSE) remains a cornerstone of union strength. These two-day sessions focus on practical representation skills, collective agreement interpretation, advocacy, and problem-solving. They also provide an opportunity for Shop Stewards to connect with peers, share experiences, and strengthen regional networks.

The 2026 SSE schedule includes:

  • March 25–26 – Eastern Urban
  • April 28–29 – Eastern Rural
  • May 14–15 – Central (Gander)
  • June 10–11 – Western
  • November 17–18 – Labrador Grenfell

By offering SSE in every region, RNU ensures that members have access to consistent, high-quality education close to home.

Eastern Labour School

May 31 – June 2, 2026

Eastern Labour School is a biennial educational event hosted on a rotational basis by NBNU, NSNU, PEINU, or RNU. The school brings union members together from across Atlantic Canada to explore labour issues, leadership development, and strategies that strengthen the broader labour movement.

Participation deepens regional collaboration and reinforces the collective power of nurses within the labour community.

Leadership and Governance Development

The 2026 Education Calendar also focuses on strengthening governance and strategic alignment across the union.

Council of Presidents
September 22–23, 2026

This leadership forum brings together union Presidents from across the province to engage in strategic planning, policy discussions, and collaborative decision-making. The Council ensures coordinated leadership and shared direction across branches.

Branch Executive Education (BEE)
September 24–25, 2026

This two-day session is designed to strengthen leadership skills, enhance decision-making, and build organizational capacity. BEE supports Branch Executives in fulfilling their governance responsibilities and leading effectively within their regions.

The 2026 Education Calendar reflects RNU’s commitment to building a knowledgeable and engaged leadership structure. Education strengthens our ability to Negotiate, Advocate, Champion, and Protect — ensuring that nurses across the province are supported by skilled representatives who understand both the workplace realities and the broader strategic direction of the union.

Registration details and additional information will be shared through MyRNU and direct communications.
